I lost my Daddy on August 18th he was only 63.

My brother had called me on Aug 5th to let me know that Daddy was going to the hospital because I am 1500 miles away. He went through his usual routine with getting better one day, bad the next. I finally asked my step mom if he was dying. She said ‘yes’. I booked a flight and was out the next day, my husband followed a few days later. I was with him for a week in the hospital. On Sunday Aug 17th I was there with my husband. Daddy had us lift his oxygen mask when he wanted a drink or when he wanted to say something. He looked me right in the eye and asked “Am I dying”. My husband and I met eyes, both hoping he was just talking nonsense. He asked me again and I had to tell him what he already knew “Yes Daddy, you are dying and there is nothing that they can do”. He pushed the oxygen mask away and told me he didn’t want it. He and my step mom had discussed this many times and he also had a living will and a Do Not Resuscitate bracelet on. He made the decision to let go at 1:10pm. We all got to say good-bye before hand but can you ever really do that? I was thankful to be there and holding his hand. I loved him so much and always looked up to him. He was my hero and I still believe that he is 10 feet tall and bullet proof.

The funeral was 3 days later on the 21st. The church sat 575 people and it was standing room only. He had so many friends and will be missed by all. So many people have told us stories about his generosity, some we had heard before but some we hadn’t. My brother and I are very proud to have such a giving Daddy.

Today is my grandpa Doug’s birthday, he would be 79. Grandpa Doug died 1 Aug 1991 from a heart attack.

I saw him for the last time in May of 1991. He and grandma lived out of town and we were there for mother’s day. My son was 5 months old and I remember Grandpa was playing with him so I ran into the kitchen to get my camera. I told Grandma and other friends and family that I would never forgive myself if I didn’t take a picture of them together and something happened to Grandpa. Everyone laughed and smiled because I was so sentimental. I cherish that picture today.

I miss him very much. I miss his laugh and his nickname for me. He was a full blood Cherokee and always greeted me in Cherokee (o-si-yo, a-ge-yu-tsa) but for some reason he always said “adios” when someone left. LOL : )

Let me start off by saying, I keep a clean house and have never seen any bugs in the house, not even flies.

Last night I saw an ant in the pantry. They aren’t fire ants, just the little bitty ones. My husband and I gathered boxes and laundry baskets and cleaned all the food and small appliances out of our enormous pantry. I mixed up a solution of vinegar, borax, a little dish soap and water to clean the pantry shelves and floor. I had been meaning to do that for about a month now anyway. I did find lots of crumbs and some cereal on the back of shelves, my bad.

After I cleaned all the shelves and small appliances we put it all back and I was happy! As a precaution, I placed a paper towel soaked in the cleaning solution on each shelf and a small container of vinegar on a lower shelf.

This morning, I saw another ant and I went nuts! I cleared the pantry out again but before I put the food back, I got on line to see what kind of ‘ant cure’ I could find that was all natural and safe for the dogs. While searching, I even found people who LOVE ants and won’t even give advice on how to get rid of them. I didn’t ask but I looked around and was thinking about it when I saw a post that said ‘don’t even ask’. What a kook!

I saw an ant on the counter so I tested with cinnamon, I think he ate it. I tested with borax and he ran. So I trapped him in a 3″ diameter circle. He was running in circles for 10 minutes! If he went another 10 minutes, I was going to break out the video camera! Well, he finally crossed the line and died. I found another victim but he was stronger and kept crossing the line. So I made the borax barrier taller, didn’t help. I buried him in borax but he kept climbing out and running. I finally got him with my finger. lol I wish I had a magnifying glass.

I am getting obsessed and frustrated. I cannot find out where they are coming in and it is pissing me off. There aren’t a lot of them that I see at once, just 5 or 6. We had put banana peels and apple cores in the trash this morning so I put that in the garage and everything in the pantry is sealed so will they just go away if they can’t get to anything? Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Until then, the bottom of the pantry is sprinkled (heavily) with borax. Smells good though.

UPDATE!
I just read on wikihow.com that borax should be treated like a poison!!! I have just vacuumed the pantry and cleaned it again for the 3rd time in 12 hours. *heavy sigh*
